The Caragan Legacy
We are proud to be part of the legacy of Caragan Kennels, and work with others in the “family” created like Chohan Kennels, Waters Raging Kennels, Flatwater kennels and others. Cheryl Caragan was a huge mentor and friend to me during her life from my early stages with the breed. She spent over 3 decades of her life dedicated to her lines within the APBT all around the United States and within Canada.
She was an ADBA judge, a breeder and a competitor and supporter of a multitude of dog sports. She often donated and volunteered her time and knowledge and equipment to new people and clubs including UKC and ADBA clubs around the country and Canada.
She enjoyed riding her Harleys and I will never forget our ever productive arguments over drive, energy, structure and health in these dogs. She utilized several dogs of mine and we were able to complete multiple co-breedings together as well.
When the Lar-San dogs began producing Day Blindness, Cheryl was instrumental in being quick to act and look for a solution. Testing on some of her puppies at UCDavis led to the CrD1-4 tests we have available today to prevent this from happening again. Cheryl did start working within other lines such as her black dogs and utilizing an out cross to Scruffy in later years to produce her beloved Beau.
I lost Cheryl to cancer in 2016, and am thankful and proud to have inherited several dogs and avenues from her, including Lola, Dyno and our co Breds, as well as a valuable network of people I can help guide and work with in the future too. We will follow all Cheryl’s wishes in regard to how she wants her lines continued, contracts done and everything that mattered to her in regards to these dogs as we have been entrusted to do.
RIP Cheryl, we will meet again one day.
